Aviation aftermarket
The aviation aftermarket is the market for parts, repairs and services supporting aircraft after delivery, distinct from original manufacture.
It includes distributors, MROs, lessors, surplus and teardown traders, PMA producers and operator procurement teams, trading new, surplus and repaired material.
Demand is driven by flight hours, cycles, maintenance programmes and unscheduled removals, and is transacted largely through RFQs rather than catalogue pricing.
Because pricing is negotiated per request rather than published, the participants with the best information consistently earn the better margin.
RELATED TERMS
An RFQ is a buyer's request for price, availability and lead time on one or more aircraft parts or repair services.
MRO covers the organisations and activities that maintain, repair and overhaul aircraft, engines and components.
ATA chapters are a standard numbering system that classifies aircraft systems and components for documentation and inventory.
