ATA chapter
ATA chapters are a standard numbering system that classifies aircraft systems and components for documentation and inventory.
The system, maintained through the Air Transport Association standards, gives every aircraft system a chapter number, such as 32 for landing gear or 49 for the auxiliary power unit.
It provides a shared vocabulary across manuals, maintenance planning, inventory categorisation and market analysis.
ATA classification makes demand analysis possible at a system level rather than one part number at a time.
