Alternate part & supersession
An alternate or superseding part number is an approved substitute for the requested part, eligible for the same application.
Manufacturers supersede part numbers as designs evolve, and many applications approve several interchangeable options. Interchangeability is not always symmetrical: A may replace B without B replacing A.
Identifying valid alternates is one of the most time-consuming manual steps in quoting, and one of the most common reasons a seller misses stock they already hold.
Resolving alternates automatically converts requests that would otherwise be answered with a no-quote into sales from existing inventory.
